Bigwood is just around the corner….

We have posted an up to date draftlist on the side bar.  We open tomorrow at 11am and hope you have made plans to join us.  We are pretty excited about this years list.  Note, a couple of weeks ago we posted a tentative list that had some beers that are not currently on the list.  There is always hesitation in posting a list early,  as game time decisions get made and beers we choose to tap change, or we decide to hold on to beers originally slated to be tapped  for other reasons.  We posted a list earlier than ever this year because the biggest complaint we have heard is that we held out on posting the list.   We hope that you  understand that we weren’t attempting to be misleading, we listened to your wishes and published a list with the warning that not all of these might make the festival list.  Thank you for your understanding, and if you got your heart set on a beer that is no longer on the list we hope you realize that there are other delicious offerings there for you.  We look forward to serving you tomorrow and through the weekend.

Don’t forget that on Saturday we are hosting a Shmaltz Brewing Sweet 16 party with at least 8 barrel aged options from them.  It all kicks off at 2pm so come before or after you attend the Winter Beer Fest at Hales.

Check, Check…We got some events to talk about!

First and foremost, we are only a week away from one of our favorite festivals.  Bigwood, our annual celebration of beers that have spent time in wood barrels from stouts to sours,  starts next Thursday, December 6th  at 11am when we open the doors, and runs through the weekend.  We are putting the final touches on the draftlists and waiting for some of the last kegs to arrive.  We posted a tentative draftlist a few weeks back and will get an updated one up in the next day or so.  Start planning now and make appropriate arrangements to get home, a lot of these beers have a way of creeping up on you.

That leads us to our next event which happens Saturday, December 8th @ 2pm.  We are one of the 16 Chosen Bars.  What does that mean you ask?  Shmaltz/Hebrew brewing is turning 16 and we will be pouring 16 beers.  You can expect to walk in to a Sweet 16 Party, take a look at the flyer if you are still confused. A little project of ours….

Awhile back we had an idea during an event we were doing with Dryfly out of Spokane.  The wheels were set in motion, a few barrels landed here in early April and we went ahead and sent them out to some local breweries to age a beer for Bigwood in.  Well Bigwood starts on Thursday, December 6th at 11am when we open, and this will be the first chance for all of us to try the five special beers . The breweries and beers aged in Dryfly Wheat Whiskey barrels are:
Big Time—–Old Sol Wheatwine
Elliot Bay Lake City—–No Doubt Stout
Fremont—–B-Bomb
Elysian—-Split Shot Espresso Milk Stout Stout
Black Raven “Mr Kitty” Blueberry Pale Ale on Nitro

We are glad to have these exclusive beers in addition to all of the other great beers!

Taken from Stone’s Website: As with any good epic, herein lies the promise of larger-than-life experiences, heroics and twists & turns as the adventure unfolds. These bottle-conditioned ales are specifically designed to be aged until sometime after December 12th, 2012. Provided you can wait that long. At that time, enjoy them in a “vertical” tasting. Each one unique to it’s year of release. Each with its own “twist & turn” in the plotline. Each one released one year, one month and one day from the previous year’s edition. To remind you, the remaining dates are:

12.12.12

Its that time of year again, the Northwest Brewing News Readers Poll voting that is!  Here’s our shameless plug, We urge you to vote for us as the Best Pub/Ale House in the Washington, Bottleworks as best Bottleshop, and all your other favorite Breweries, Pubs and Beer Styles.

It’s already November? Where did our year go?

It’s a fact, pumpkin beer is here to stay.  What started as an idea and a small festival at Elysian Capital Hill has grown in to a gigantic 75 beer celebration of all things pumpkin at their Georgetown Production facility attended by over 4000 people.  Each year these beers come out earlier and earlier, this year I found myself having to order pumpkin beer in mid to late August.  Since August is not when we really want to wet my whistle with thought of fall, we planned a bit ahead and squirreled away some pumpkin beer so that we could serve it to you at a later date.  Well that later date is upon us, and we have an event that we have dubbed The Mini Pumpkin Road Show.  It has started to rain, it feels like fall, we are turning the clocks back, and since we thought ahead we still have some pumpkin beer to share with you for the holidays.  On Wednesday, November 21st (the night before Thanksgiving)  at 6pm we will have at least 10 pumpkin beers on draft and probably one cider. We will be pouring Timmerman’s Pumpkin Lambic, Naked City Boo Radley, Southern Tier Pumking, Howe Sound Pumpkineater, Fort George Druken Punkin, and a handful of beers from Elysian including, Blight, Night Owl, Great Pumpkin, and Dark o the Moon.  We welcome you to come on down and enjoy some pumpkin beer and food before you spend the day with your family over indulging.

It’s that time of year again. The Firestone Walker Ugly Sweater Party is Friday, November 23rd.  It starts at 2pm, we have put together some nice prizes for the Ugliest Sweater.  Prizes will be given away throughout the day, and the major prizes will be announce between 5 and 6 pm that day.  We will be pouring 10 different draft options from them including but not limited to: Union Jack, Pale 31, Double Jack, Wookey Jack, Double DBA, XVI, and some other yet to be determined options, that will not disappoint.   What better way to recover after the holiday spent with your family.  Guys send the woman shopping, put on your ugliest sweater and come join us.

One of our favorite festivals happens to be in the first week of December, Bigwood, our celebration of all things wood aged from Sour to Stout.  Starting December 6th at 11am and running through the weekend.  We will have more about the exact draftlist in a week or so, please stay tuned.

We got some events!

Lagunitas Brown Shugga is back!  We will be hosting the release party Wednesday, October 24th @6pm.  We will be pouring the first keg of Brown Shugga in Washington, along with Hop Stoopid. Whao do we have a busy October planned…

First off next Wednesday, October 17th @ 6pm we welcome Speakeasy from San Francisco back to the market.  There will be a brewery representative on hand to answer your questions.  We will pour 8 draft options from them including, Big Daddy IPA, Double Daddy IPA, Butchertown Black Ale and XV Triple IPA to name a few.  We hope that your join us in welcoming Speakeasy.

A week later on Wednesday, October 24th @6pm we will be the first ones in Washington to release everybody’s favorite Holiday Ale Lagunitas Brown Shugga!  It’s back after a year hiatus due to lack of brewing capacity.  We are really excited to have this beer back.  We will also be pouring Hop Stoopid, Undercover Shutdown, and one other delicious offering yet to be decided upon.  Please mark your calender and plan on joining us for this event.

We are also working on having Multiple Halloween Parties.  We don’t have all the details but on Saturday, October 27th we are planning an event with Fremont Brewing, 21st Amendment and Laurelwood, we will have a DJ starting at 7 and the brewery representatives will be judging a costume party at about 10:30.  Rumor has it that the grand prize will be a kegerator ( think badass stickered, and  brewery janitor certified, not clean,  polished and just off the showroom floor) .  Not a bad reason to dress up and join us.  Look for a few special rarer beers at this event.

To keep you in the Halloween spirit on Halloween, Wednesday, October 31 we will be hosting yet another Halloween event.  Pirates (Gigantic) vs Ninjas (New Belgium) vs Unicorns (Big Time) !  Dress up as one of the above to show your support for the Brewery representing there will be prizes and giveaways, we just haven’t hammered out all the details just yet as to what we will be giving away.

Now if that doesn’t give you something to look forward to, you my friend are not in to having fun!

Coffee Beer Fest at Burgundian.

We will be closed tomorrow, Saturday October 6th, for a Private party.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.  However,  Burgundian located at 2253 N 56th St (in Tangletown) is having a very Seattle centric festival, Coffee Beer Fest.  22 coffee beers, 5 coffee craft cocktails, and a coffee infused menu, all the fun starts at 10am when the doors open.

Here’s a few of the beers that we will be pouring:

Big Time Marzen Oktoberfest W/ Ethipia Mordecofe (5.8%)
Fremont Dark Star Imperial Oatmeal Stout W/ Ganesha Tony’s Coffee (8%)
(We included our Ganesha Espresso Blend in the Dark Star Imperial Stout.  This blend is comprised of three of our highest quality coffees; the base component (80%) is grown by the Pacas family on Finca San Joaquin in El Salvador, the fruitiness comes from the (10%) Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Konga Natural (see above), and the complex spice & acidity comes from (10%) Kenya Kiamwangi AA.  This blend rotates throughout the year, depending on which coffees are in season, but we always roast it to a medium level, which brings out a lot of sweetness, without masking the individual character of each coffee.)
Fort George Thundermuck Stout W/Thundermuck Indonesian Beans (9%)
 HUB Brouwer’s 6thAnniversary Stumptown & Mexican Chocolate (9.5%)
(Originally, made for Brouwer’s, we took base Brouwer’s Imprerial Stout blended it with Barrel aged Brouwer’s Imperial   Stout aka “Army of Darkness” and aged it on 2lbs of Stumptown coffee and 2 lbs of Mexican Chocolate.)
Gigantic The City Hasn’t Slept for Days Imperial Black Saison W/Cold Pressed House Blend from Portland Roasting(7.2%)

Naked City Sudden Impact Coffee IPA W/Dillanos Coffee (6%)
Great Divide Oaked Aged Espresso Yeti W/Pablo’s Espresso (9.5%)

Cocktails:
Midnight Express: Hot coffee, Walnut infused Cognac, Simple Syrup topped with Fresh Whip Cream.
Coffee Cocktail: Port Wine, Cognac, One whole egg and simple syrup.
Brewers Breakfast: Sake, 100% Corn Whiskey, Galliano, and garnished with 8 Honey Nut Cherrios.

We look forward to seeing you at Burgundian.

Thanks for a great Hopfest!

Thanks to all of you, all the brewers and our staff for making a great Hopfest.  We still have quite a few hoppy beers on draft if you happened to miss it, you can still come in and drink the likes of Boundary Bay Imperial IPA, Silver City Whoop Pass, Firestone Double Jack, and many more.

We will be closed this Saturday, October 6th for a Private Party.  We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause you.

Next Wednesday, October 10 at 6pm we will be tapping Hair of the Dog/De Proef Flanders Fred, Hair of the Dog Fred, and Bockor Publican Lambic (the lambic sourced in the Fred Flanders Blend).  This will give you the opportunity to taste all the components and blend your own version of Fred Flanders.

It’s been a bit of a balancing act around here…..

Hopfest is a mere 2 days away, we have been working as hard as we can to secure all the last kegs.  I can tell you it was a bit of a balancing act but we feel we have put together a really nice sampling of hoppy beers for your imbibing pleasure.  I will provide a short list of what will be on draft.  Well… scratch that I just posted the list to the hopfest tab…if there isn’t a price next to an item it means that we don’t have it in the cooler.  I usually shy away from posting info about stuff unless its actually in the cooler, but I’ll take a chance on it.  Hope that wets your appetite.  See you Thursday.

Hopfest starts September 27th.

Hopfest is just around the corner.  Our cooler is starting to fill up with delicious hoppy beers.  We are hoping to have a wide variety of Fresh Hop beers in addition to the Imperial and Double Ipas. Here is a short list of what we already have:
Big Al Hop Soup
21st Amendment Hop Crisis
Russian River Pliny the Elder
HOD Blue Dot
Dogfish Head 120
Evil Twin Femme Fatale Brett IPA
Mad Viking Stingray Imperial
Emillese Black IPA
Southern Tier Gemini
New Belgium/Alpine Super IPA
Green Flash Imperial IPA
Just to name a few…the hops are being harvested as we speak and most of the brewers have started brewing with them…now all we had to do be patient.  We look forward to seeing you for Hopfest.

Have you heard?  Right Craftbeer.com is having their Best Craft Beer Bars contest and we are in the running.  Please follow the link and vote for us.

Calling Cross Racers! oh and Hopfest is coming.

It’s that time again, can you believe it, fall is coming…the first MFG race is this Sunday in Kirkland.  We love cross and for the third year in a row we are helping ring in the coming of cross by hosting the Kick Off party here from 6-10 tonight.  The party will be upstairs.  The buffet will start around 6:45.  Look for Schooner Exact beer specials upstairs.  Please join us.

Another friendly reminder.  Hopfest starts September 27th and runs through the weekend.  This is our annual celebration of all things hoppy.  We are hoping that the harvest is early enough that we can have a better fresh hop presence at the festival than we have in past years.  We invite you to join us, cause you live in the northwest and there’s probably a good chance that you enjoy hoppy beers.  The T-shirts are already here, we went with an olive green shirt this year with the above logo on it.  We really like em, and hey they aren’t black like most of our shirts.  We hope you plan on joining us.

We got some events coming up…

One of our favorite people, Eric Salazar (from New Belgium), will be joining us for happy hour tomorrow, Wednesday, August 22nd from 3-6pm.  We will be tapping Tart Lychee, New Belgium/Alpine Super IPA, and New Belgium/Port Mo Betta Bretta.  We will also have Somersault Ale.  We invite you to join us.
Thursday, August 23rd @6pm we will be tapping the perfect crime American Blonde and the perfect crime European Blond.  the perfect crime is a collaboration between Stillwater and Evil Twin.  We have tried them out of the bottle and enjoy both of them, this is a rare opportunity to try them side by side on draft.

On Tuesday, September 4th from 6-10 we will celebrate the arrival of cross season.  Bikes and Beer go together that’s why we have been a proud supporter of MFG Cyclocross for 3 years now.  We invite you to come on down and rub elbows, heckle and just hang out and share stories.  We will provide a complimentary buffet at 6:45.  New to the scene this is a great way to meet some folks.  The first race of the season is Sunday, September 9th out in Kirkland.

We have been calling around and are starting to fill our cooler with delicious hoppy beers for Hopfest that starts on Thursday,  September 27th and runs through the weekend.  We moved the date to a bit later in hopes that we could get a few more fresh hopped beers.  It is looking like we will have a few at the festival this year.  Mark your calenders and join us.

Happy Hour with New Belguim’s Eric Salazar.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, August 22nd from 3-6pm for a Happy Hour with Eric Salazar form New Belgium.  We will be pouring New Belgium’s Super Ipa ( a collabeeration with Alpine Brewing in San Diego) and Tart Lychee as well as a few other New Belgium Beers.   We hope you take the time to come in and join us.

Next, Thursday, August 23rd starting @ 6pm we will be pouring the perfect crime American-Style Blond side by side with the perfect crime European-Style Blond.  perfect crime is a collaboration between Stillwater brewing and Evil Twin brewing.  They are pretty elusive with the details of the whole project, and we are very excited to have these rare beers side by side on draft together.  We hope that you choose to join us.  Perfect beers for a hot summer day.

We think that beer and bikes go hand in hand, and really what’s more Belgian than Cyclocross,  that’s why we have been a proud supporter of MFG Cyclocross for the past 3 years.  We always host an opening series party (which will be Tuesday, September 4th this year) and a party after the Woodland Park race in November.  Those of you that plan to race over the next season should join us on September 4th @6pm to tell stories, heckle one another, enjoy each others company.  It all starts at 6pm and food will be served at 6:45 pm.  We hope you join us.

Events on the horizon

The next major festival that we have coming up is Hopfest (our celebration of all things hoppy).  It starts on Thursday, September 27th and runs through the weekend.   Above is a mock up of this years t-shirt.  What do you think?  We like it.  We are starting to fill the cooler with delicious options for your drinking pleasure.

This Thursday, August 16th at 6pm we are hosting a Big Sky/Four Roses event.  We will be tapping Centaur(Big Sky Noel aged in our Four Roses Barrel).  There will be cocktail specials as well, Peach Smash anyone?  Come on down and join us.

Next Wednesday, August 22nd we will be hosting Eric Salazar, one of our favorite brewers,  from New Belgium Brewing for happy hour from 3-6pm.  We will have their Super Ipa a collabeeration with Alpine Brewing in San Diego, and Tart Lychee as well as a couple others.  We hope you join us.

We have a Four Roses/Big Sky Event.

On Thursday, August 16th @ 6pm we will release Big Sky Centaur Ale (their Noel aged in a Four Roses Barrel).  Since Beer and Whiskey go together like peas and carrots, we felt that we should celebrate both Big Sky and Four Roses by making a night of it.  We will have a few cocktail specials, hows a a peach smash  for a summer night sound?  Mark your calenders and come on down.

Also, for you Cider lovers, Tuesday August 21st at 6pm we will pour Crispin Marvin next to Tieton Barrel aged cider side by side.  For those of you into cider and or barrel aged alcoholic beverages this is a great opportunity to try a couple rare ciders side by side.

Summer is here!

Or at least what we call summer in the Northwest!  Our patio is open everyday, come on down and enjoy it with us.

In other news, Hopfest, our celebration of all things hoppy, starts Thursday, September 27th at 11am and runs through the weekend.  We moved the date back a bit in hopes that we could get a few more fresh hop beers in the rotation.  We hope that you are planning ahead, we will attempt to have at least a partial draftlist up earlier than we have for other events, we understand that this helps people plan ahead.  We also feel that part of the fun is showing up and seeing what we have been able to procure for you.  We feel that giving away the whole list takes away from the fun of the event or events. In the past this has lead us to not putting out the draftlist till the day of.  We will make a conscious effort to get at least half the list out this time a week or so in advance.  Thank you for your cooperation.

We like bicycles, that is why for the past 2 seasons, and now a third season, we have supported MFG Cyclocross by having a season Kick Off  party and an after Woodland Park party.  It feels so early to be doing this, as summer feels like it has just arrived, The season Kick Off party will be held Tuesday, September 4th from 6 pm- 11.  We will provide a complimentary limited buffet,  at 6:30 with enough food for 60 or so people.  No need to RSVP, just show up head upstairs, we will have beer specials for you as well.  We really can’t believe that it is already the time of year that we start thinking about cross, but here we are already talking about it.  We hope you join us for this fun event.
